The Vicariate Apostolic of the Caroline Islands was established December 10,1905, and extended to include the Marshall Islands on May 4, 1923. The Marianas Islands were later separated on July 4, 1946. The Diocese of the Caroline and Marshall Islands were erected on February 2, 1980; the Marshalls were established as a separate Prefecture Apostolic on August 15, 1993. The Diocese presently incorporates the Vicariates of Palau, Chuuk, Pohnpei and Kosrae, and Yap.
